"Some people know everything, but that's all they know."

President Obama’s fundamental disregard for the nature of Islamic terrorism, no doubt, has Islamist-jihadists around the world cheering.  (Read the full column at EWRoss.com)

    Islam is not a religion of peace or understanding. It is a fanatic belief system that demands everyone in the world embrace it as the only universal truth . As a religion they teach that murder, adultry, kidnapping, abuse of women, rape and slavery are all acceptable in the name of Islam. There is no reasoning with them. The only enemy they know is the sword. Obama is seen all over the web admitting he’s a Moslem. Is he the President of the United States to protect and defend America or to help perpetuate Islamic domination? Judith Bron

    Ed: I don’t think Obama disregards the nature of Islamic terrorism, only that he is afraid of the word. Obviously things must be called by their name, not by some vague name that could just as well be attached to the FARCs or the pre-peace IRA.

    I agree that Obama’s strategy -not only his antiterrorist strategy but his foreign policy- is one of cutting and running and of wishing that the issues will disappear just because the US has gone. This policy of (relative) disengagement from the AfPak zone and the Middle East will eventually have to be paid for.

    You write: “Islamist-jihadists aren’t the foreign and domestic enemies we were used to. They’re different from communists, fascists, and the Mafia. They aren’t predominantly gangsters masquerading as patriots and businessmen. They are true believers, working in groups or alone to do the will of Allah.”, No, they are -with very few exceptions like Mokhtar Belmokhtar in Southern Algeria and the Sahel- not gangsters at all, even though they are actually worse and cause many more casualties than gangsters. They certainly don’t masquerade as patriots, since they reject the notion of nation-state. They know only the Muslim Umma, and countries for them are only geographical regions: AQ in the land of the two rivers (Iraq), AQ in the Arabic peninsula (Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Gulf States), AQ in the Islamic Maghreb. The Salafist ideology prescribed returning to the two centuries following the death of Prophet Muhammad (or their reconstruction of it), when obviously there were no nation-states.

    Where you are right is where you point to the fact that if there are only 2 percent of Islamic extremists, this makes 34 million people. But these people are dispersed throughout the Muslim and non Muslim word and fortunately they cannot boast large concentrations.

    What we are faced with is a long war. It will undoubtedly end, but we cannot say when. For the Jihadists to lose this long war, we must indeed catch or kill as many as possible, but still more importantly deprive them of any popular support.

    In his National Defense University speech, which contains statements I object to, Obama is not saying that he will allow a greater number of Jihadists to get away with it, but tighten the conditions for drone strikes, so that such strikes kill only those who matter most, so that drone strikes do not create more jihadists than we kill. I would agree however that the notion that targeting only those that directly threaten US interests is too restrictive a notion. Those who will target, for instance, Afghanistan after 2014 will possibly not directly threaten US interests, but our Afghan allies, which is just as dangerous for the free world. The US has a direct interest in helping those who are under attack from Islamic (or Islamist) terrorists.

    The Qu’ran does not provide “Islamist-jihadist justification” for the actions of Islamic terrorists, they read it so that it apparently does -which isn’t the same thing. It is their reading which is at fault.Indeed the Qu’ran contains some warlmike passages -just as the bible does- but all modern Muslim theologians agree that there are “essential” verses in the Quran, and “circumstantial” ones which applied only to situations where the new revelation and the Prophet of Islam were under military attack.

    We certainly must encourage Muslims to oppose Islamists. We are doing it, but at an insufficent scale. Now it is not non-Muslims who can tell Muslims that their conception of Islam is warped and politically rather than religiously motivated: it is only other Muslims, and we must indeed encourage them to do so. It is important to impress upon Muslims that the best environment for Islam to bloom without political distorsions is liberal democracy, not the rule of those who pretend that democracy is illicit as the rule of man as opposed to that of God -and actually are prepared to rule in the name of God without any mandate to do so: pretending to speak for God is pretending one is a Prophet: Islam says that the last of the Prophets is Mohammed, and that anyone who would after Him claim to or act as a prophet is a false prophet.

    As to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, a US citizen arrested by law enforcement on US soil, I see no reason for not reading him his rights and observe due process. Of course it would be useful! Interviewing suspects without the presence of a lawyer is every policeman’s dream! The question is not whether it is useful, but whether it is constitutional and legal.

    In Hamdi v. Rumsfeld, 542 U.S. 507 (2004), the Supreme Court recognized the power of the US government to detain enemy combatants, including US citizens, but ruled that detainees who are US citizens must have the rights of due process, and the ability to challenge their enemy combatant status before an impartial authority. Hamdi, however, was declared “illegal enemy combatant” after being captured in Afghanistan in 2001, not on US soil.

    Justice O’Connor, joined by The Chief Justice, Justice Kennedy, and Justice Breyer, concluded that although Congress authorized the detention of combatants in the narrow circumstances alleged in this case, due process demands that a citizen held in the United States as an enemy combatant be given a meaningful opportunity to contest the factual basis for that detention before a neutral decisionmaker.

    Justice Souter, joined by Justice Ginsburg, concluded that Hamdi’s detention is unauthorized, but joined with the plurality to conclude that on remand Hamdi should have a meaningful opportunity to offer evidence that he is not an enemy combatant.

    The Supreme Court has not yet addressed the case of a US citizen affiliated, or inspired by, Al-Qaeda, one of its affiliates and accomplices and captured on US soil.

    The important security issue wasn’t convicting Dzhokhar -this is going to be easy- but finding out what he knows that might prevent a future attack or break up a terror network. This is where naming him an enemy combatant would have been useful, as such a designation allows for extensive, long-term interrogation without a lawyer. However, as Hamdi v Rumsfled say, he would have had to be given “a meaningful opportunity to contest the factual basis for that detention before a neutral decisionmaker.” Such is the law of the land.

    José Padilla, aka Abdullah al-Muhajir or Muhajir Abdullah, a United States citizen from Brooklyn, New York, was arrested in Chicago in May, 2002, on suspicion of plotting a radiological bomb attack. He was detained as a material witness until June 9, 2002, when President George W. Bush designated him an enemy combatant and, arguing that he was not entitled to trial in civilian courts, had him transferred to a military prison. Padilla was held for three and a half years as an “enemy combatant.” The “dirty bomb” charge was dropped, and in January, 2006, Padilla, whose enemy combatant status had been rescinded, was found by a Florida federal jury guilty of conspiring to kill people in an overseas jihad, and to fund and support overseas terrorism. We therefore have no Supreme or lower court precedent.

    Under the public safety exception it was possible to interrogate the suspect without mirandizing him -though his state of health placed serious limits on this-, though no court would have accepted thos exception to be extended indefinitely.

    US and international investigations are ongoing. It is goping to be a slow process and much will depened on the degree of cooperation of Russian central and local (Dagetsan, Chechnia, etc) authorites including the FSB domestic intelligence service. On the other hand many enemy combatants held in Guantanamo or previously elsewhere have not supplied muich information. It is of course out of the question to return to EITs which have been clearly outlawed.

    (*) Some gangsters and other jailbirds have indeed joined AQ, but as a means of redemption for their pasr crimes as ordinary criminals.

    Gordon, I would suggest you check out a number of studies.

    (Yes, we know that terrorism is a tactic – but it’s a tactic that has been sanctioned by Islam, Allah, the Quran, their prophet Mohammed and their Imam’s, both Sunni & Shiite for centuries).

    And what is the goal of these terrorist activities? You can find out the answer yourself, on your own – so, here goes, for the benefit of your reading “pleasure”

    The Reliance of the Traveller;

    The al Qaeda Reader;

    Terrorist Hunter;

    Sharia: The Threat to America;

    Muslim Mafia;

    The Quranic Concept of War;

    Iran’s Proxy War against America;

    The Clash of Civilizations;

    The West’s Last Chance;

    and on, and on, and on.

    We may not be at war with Islam – but there is a significant portion of Islam that is, in fact, at war against the West, most specifically the United States and the ideals we represent, such as Freedom, Self-government, Individual Rights, etc. Meanwhile, you think that a nuclear Iran can be contained – I suggest that you think again and perhaps read http://www.matthiaskuentzel.de/contents/antisemitism-messianism-and-the-cult-of-sacrifice-the-iranian-holy-war and The Rise of Nuclear Iran; How Tehran Defies the West.

    No, Gordon, the threat(s) we face today make Hitler’s Nazism look like Kindergarten as compared to Graduate School. My final suggestion; Brace yourself for a long, vicious and protracted war – and let’s find a CINC worthy of the title.

    Dealing with Muslim Radicals?

    In 2010 Europe had estimated 44.1 million Muslims. And by the year 2030 this number would reach 58.1 million. Not including unregistered illegals.
    Considering 10% Radicals, it means that now European countries are facing potentially over 4 million radicals. We have seen the activities of these radicals recently in the US, England, France and Sweden.

    Agreed. Sayydi Qutb is the Muslim Brotherhood’s leading intellectual. If you haven’t had read Milestones, I have it in pdf and can forward it to you this evening. I’m not sure if there’s a way to make it available to linkedin users or not.

    Another of Qutb’s work is “In the Shade of the Koran”, his life’s work, consisting of 30 volumes, mostly written during his long tenure sitting in Nassar’s prison prior to his execution. As of 2010 the Islamic Society of Great Britain had only translated 18 of these 30 volumes. What I find so remarkable is the the current Grand Ayatollah of Iran, Ali Khamenei, a Shiite cleric, took the time, I believe during the 80’s, to translate all 30 volumes into Farsi, the Persian language,

    Now, why would a Shiite cleric take the enormous amount of time and effort to translate a Sunni, MB intellectual’s life’s work into his native tongue? The only reason I can think of is that there is some common ideological revolutionary core thread that resonates and allows for the setting aside of religous differences; somethinig along the lines of the justifcation for offensive jihad or a common eschatological belief, such as the return of the Caliphate &/or Mahdi.

    Which is the reason I’m not at all surprised to see the Ayatollah and the Islamic Republic of Iran working hand in glove with al Qaeda, Hamas, Islamic Jihad or even the MB of Egypt.

    It is sad that so many believe in other’s Bullshit, but It is important not to believe in one’s own Bullshit. So long as the principal Bullshooter doesn’t believe in his own BS, then reasonable arrangements are available. In order to cut a deal, it is important to the success of a mutual agreement not to take each other’s BS serious and do business as usual.

    For decades the West and Gaddhafi cut deals behind the BS until Gaddhafi softened his stance internally and his whole bag fell apart. That is the lesson the Kim Il Un and Assad clearly understand: get wobbly and soft, and the deluge follows. Same with the Old Evil Empire which came apart a seams that started topside. Once the security services felt their gravy train slowing down, it becomes a matter to fire the cook.

    The real problems in dealing with faux folie (fake crazies), relate to how tight the tyrant’s grip is. If tight, there will be no one to stub the tyrant in the back, nor go Ronson, or bang on pots at the Casa Rosa, or the old Chicago style assassination by body guard.

    To set up the stab in the back, the people rising, the Army wobbling, or splits in the Good Old Boy bunch, one must be able to push their cold and/or hot buttons the appropriate sequence in harmony with what is sexy, comforting and profitable. This means that one should not piss on their cross. It means a high degree of cultural sensitivity, which means knowing where the soft spots are.

    The condemnation by infidels by whomever deems themselves the faithful strengthens infidel power, who like everyone else is there to protect and nurture the family against all threats foreign and domestic. This would be like Al Qaeda announcing that the killings would continue until the US added a crescent to the flag. Not likely.

    Because of a decade of war using bomb, bullets and boots against an ephemeral opponent whose strongest arguments are about those bombs, bullets, and boots. This is a tragedy built on absurdities, one against the other. We say we want to meddle in their internal affairs so that people in our internal affair with a sense of security when such security becomes boring.

    That which differentiates people is their Cultural Center of Gravity (CCOG) defined for the purposes of cross cultural communication as: How do they get laid and paid?

    Putin’s speech on Feb.04, 2013

    Sometimes you need a real bastard to stand up and call a spade a spade.

    On February 4th, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Dumas (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:

    “In Russia live Russians.

    Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws.

    If they prefer Shari’ya Law, then we advise them to go to those places where that’s the state law.

    Russia does not need minorities.

    Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires,

    no matter how loud they yell discrimination’.

    We better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland and France, if we are to survive as a nation.

    The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of most minorities.

    When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the national interest first, observing that the minorities are not Russians.

    The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a standing ovation for five minutes!

    If this comes as a surprise to anyone here, then all I can say is you have been living a delusion since 2008.

    Through the actions of this government and the placement of individuals in high position within it who have not been vetted, have apparent ties to the Muslim Brotherhood (which as some of you may know has routinely called for the destruction of Western Civilization), our government has become the enemy of the people (except those who are Muslim – to include the 50,000 + from Hamas who were resettled in this nation by (apparently) executive order.

    This nation has been under attack from Muslim terrorists and terrorist states since its founding, yet how many of ouor fellow citizens know this, how many understand the stanza which says “from the shores of Tripoli”? Judging from the media – not many know and fewer care.

    That in itself is a crime.

    Putin in the tirade above is speaking to an internal audience of extremist Russian nationalists. These folks were on the losing side in the Russian Revolution and WW2.

    As soon as the Red Flag was taken down, nationalists went out to several fields where the NKVD had persecuted the Russian National Army who had fought with the Germans led by General Vlasov. There also were members of Foreign Volunteer SS formations of Cossacks of Russian, Ukrainian and Polish Extract.

    There have been several movies of these folks including a piece on British TV series Foley’s War ” Russian House” in which some Russian Nazi POW’s were being returned “home” which was to be in the fields later dug up.

    The policies that the Nationalists objected to are the same everywhere regarding immigrants, jobs and culture. It was the argument that Hitler used to grab the Sudentenland in Czechoslovakia, and lands in Polish for which grab East Prussia is a toxic waste dump.

    The Soviet Union placed primary emphasis on the Soviet Citizen as opposed to Ukrainian or Estonian, so long as they spoke Russian. All this does is to convince the Muslim nations in the Caucasus to keep their powder dry and fuses short.

    How could Obama disregard “Islamic Terrorism”? they are his current allies in Syria and Libya.

    When they work against us, we call them “Islamic-Jihadists-Terrorists” when they work for us, they are “Freedom Fighters.” The truth is that they are neither. They are mostly misguided people, led by AGENTS disguised as Muslims. (not everyone who grow a beard carries a gun is a Muslim)

    If you follow closely how the “freedom fighters” in Syria were recruited, you will understand what I am talking about here.
    To recruit new Al-Qaeda European members to fight in Syria (Freedom Fighters). Some AGENTS funded by the U.S. and some countries in the Middle East misguided new European converts and recruited them to fight in Syria under the flag of Al-Qaeda. The recruiters are just AGENTS of the political interests in overthrowing Assad the President of Syria. Who are helping the Muslim-Jihadist-Terrorists, I mean the

    “Freedom Fighters” in their war against Assad? the U.S., Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the Emirates.

    So, let us call a blade a blade. the story if Islamic terrorism has been overused to ruin the U.S. economy and caused the killing and maiming tens of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of innocent Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Nigeria, and other African countries for the benefit of the U.S. Power Triad (the Military Industrial Complex, The Multinational Corporations, and the Israel Lobby).
    If you are a patriot american, you should research what I said here without prejudice and verify its accuracy on your own. In this way, you are serving the american people.
    Save the U.S. from the scare tactics that has been used against the American people since the collapse of Communism to drive the U.S. into aggression against the Muslim World in unjustifiable wars.
