ROBIN HOOD – A Role Model for Conservative Politicians

Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, which opened to mixed reviews in American movie theaters on May 14, is an excellent educational film for current and future conservative American politicians. It reinforces the importance of championing limited government, individual rights, and freedom over the pursuit of self interest.

If you haven’t yet seen the film, this may confuse you. The countless versions of Robin Hood, from 1938’s Errol Flynn in The Adventures of Robin Hood onward, portrayed the medieval hero as a liberal. Robin always had the right talking points, but his main activities were the pursuit of his own interests and the redistribution of wealth. He pursued merriment with Lady Marian and his merry men. He fought for his beloved but absent King Richard the Lionheart and to recover his lost estates. And he taunted the Sheriff of Nottingham for entertainment. Most important, he took from the rich to give to the poor—a defining liberal characteristic.

I wasn’t going to go see this movie because I’m not a fan of Russell Crowe, but after reading your article I think I’ll go see it. God knows we need some good conservative messages coming out of Hollywood these days.

Patriot Ed Ross does a fine job in this review of “Robin Hood” showing how this new film has at its heart a conservative theme. I look forward to seeing the film NOW, thanks to Ed’s provocative and enticing review. Originally, I had thought I’d skip another Hollyweird lefty preachy film about robbing the rich [corporations] and giving to the poor [democrat special interests]. Good job, Ed!

hello Mr. Ross – thanks for a piece that explains the prople in charge of the US of A. In Brooklyn they are known as “BUMS.” It is tragic that even the best intentioned freshman politician soon learns the “game” and becomes one of the Barons you describe in Robin Hood. We hear repeatedly, “they work for us,” how naive!

We need the Tea Party to make a huge difference and throw a lot of these self-dealers out of office so the members of the Tea Party can get elected and THEY, too can be the Big Bad Barons and we can look for ways to throw THEM out, huh?
