“Seek truth from facts” (實事求是), a Chinese expression that dates from the Han Dynasty (206 BC to 25 AD) and used by Deng Xiaoping to reclaim China from Mao Zedong’s destruction, should be the Republican Party’s campaign slogan in 2012. President Obama and the leadership of the Democratic Party seek to create truth from campaign rhetoric, fear, and deception. If the Republican presidential nominee and candidates down the ticket simply and clearly present the facts and conservative policies they won’t abandon in office, Republican candidates will win in a national landslide. The following is from Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distribution_of_wealth ). I’m certainly not in favor of a “nanny state” but any way you cut it our national distribution of wealth has become way out of kilter with earlier times in our history when almost everyone would concede that our overall financial situation was better.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, between 1979 and 2007 incomes of the top 1% of Americans grew by an average of 275%. During the same time period, the 60% of Americans in the middle of the income scale saw their income rise by 40%. Since 1979 the average pre-tax income for the bottom 90% of households has decreased by $900, while that of the top 1% increased by over $700,000, as federal taxation became less progressive. From 1992-2007 the top 400 income earners in the U.S. saw their income increase 392% and their average tax rate reduced by 37%.[13] In 2009, the average income of the top 1% was $960,000 with a minimum income of $343,927.

Unfortunately as voters we are never really privy to the whole truth about our political leaders. The facts that we do get are unfortunately filtered through a liberally slanted media. Consequently what we are left to go on is what we know has actually taken place since 2008. Our current administration has turned our back on some of our most loyal allies (Israel in particular), now wants to drastically cut defense spending and shrink our military, rewarded greedy predatory lending institutions and large corporations with tax funded bailouts, forced a mandatory government optioned health care programed against the will of nearly seventy percent of polled Americans, forced CAFE standards and other expensive “Green” regulations on the auto industry, handcuffed the small business person with unreasonable and costly operating expenses in the areas of safety and EPA standards, continued to expand the size of government, and allow extensions on unemployment instead of seeking solutions to an unemployment figure that has risen as much as two percent in the past three years. In retrospect, the victory phrase of “Yes we can” should be changed to”No we haven’t”.

Good points Ed. Let’s hope the battle scars inflicted on each other by these two guys will heal in plenty of time for the real war this fall. We will know soon enough though.

I looked up Ed Ross (E.W.Ross); his article reflects his political position. A little lazy perhaps in his analysis, but then no one wants to hang around and really analyze truth from half-truth. Fair enough, there is not really much to discus here, more election year prattle where one person’s truth is another’s half-truth, often depending on the depth of analysis.

I agree there are truths and half-truths in the arguments on both sides, especially when the candidate’s position must be summarized in a “sound-bite” in order to be assimilated by the voters. However, there are facts at the global level: the size and capabily of our military far exceeds all other nations, our tax code is a mess inherited from past and present leaders, the amount of money flowing from political contributions corrupts our government and should be curtailed, etc. The prime criterion for selecting our next President should be based on our perception of how the candidate will address these issues. Blind castigation of the candidates based on their political affiliation is, in fact, senseless.

@John Flynn, Almost everything involves one of three: politics, sex or religion.
