Following the 2008 election Americans learned a great deal more about the man they elected president than they knew about him when they voted for him. The 2012 election will tell us more about ourselves than the man we elect as our president, no matter who he is. (More)

Discussion: WHAT THE 2012 ELECTION WILL TELL US ABOUT OURSELVES
This will be a pivotal election with the Republican Party. Will the established leaders take control back or will the Tea Party or Ron Paul libertarians take it in a different direction.
I think that the democrats are secure with the liberal-socialist agenda.
The republicans are fighting over the center and the right. It will be interesting to see if the party emerging from this election cycle will be powerful with its constituency or if the pendulum has now swung to the left for the foreseeable future?

If we don’t step out of the box we have always been in, which was voting for the guy with the most money, in place of principles and love for our country; we will continue to get what we deserve. Politics as usual is a scam.

I sure hope everyone who votes will do their homework and understand the candidates, their beliefs, their past, the plans they have for the future, and the state of this country now and what it needs to climb out of the current messes we are in. Let’s hope we can elect someone who is qualified and not vote for someone just because you feel good. We must think about our future, our children’s future, where we are now and where we want to be with regards with our economy, our presence in the world, our state of well being within our own beliefs. I think we are in for a change, much like in 1984 after Jimmy Carter we got Ronald Reagan, which was a blessing. Let’s hope after Obama we get another Reagan type.

I think a deal was made in the last primary which is why McCain is now promoting Romney. Big establishment. Ron Paul is good on many things but he also scares me. I don’t think he is electable. In the end, I think it is already in the bag for Romney.

I am always asking, “Are our politicians perverse or what?” By that I mean, they seem to do just the opposite of what is in the interests of the majority of the people, particularly the working middle class. Maybe they are holding up a mirror to out culture.

Good comment Ed. I agree totally. This may be the last time voters will get the chance to vote for a free country that allows people to pursue their dreams. Hopefully there are still more achievers than moochers in America.

Ed said it well. This is forthcoming election is a contest between “entitlement” vs. “empowerment”. I have been unemployed in the mainstream for close to three years now, but have not taken one penny in pubic assistance. I have bartered services, sold possessions, drained savings, picked up a few 1099 contracts, and even tried to get a business started. My consolation is knowing I’m not alone. I have great respect and admiration for all the Republican contenders at this point. It’s like going to a buffet famished, seeing all your favorite entrees, but told you can only select one.

What I find interesting during each election cycle is we find out who the Conservatives are and whom are the wanna-bees. It is not easy being a conservative. As a matter of fact, if you are thin skinned it can be hard to be a Conservative at times.
The anti-Conservatism is every where today. Hollywierd, Government Schools, Universities, Union Work Environments and of course the Main Stream News Media to name a few.
Each election cycle the Republican Talking Heads find themselves living in a glass house. In the off season they are as Conservative as the day is long until true Conservatives run for Office against a RINO. Micheal Medved, Hugh Hewitt, Eric Hogue and now even Ann Coulter for example can not pimp for the Romney RINOs fast enough as they preach to Conservatives about how ONLY Romney can with. Are the motivations here really in my interest or to secure something for themselves later?
Next we have Rush L. and Mark Levin. These guys try not to make a pick in the primary but can not help themselves as their Conservatism shines though. Bachmann and Santorum. Yes they were about as Conservative as we have in this cycle. How do we know? Like the Main Stream News Media. The GOP Establishment slaps the two of them at every turn.
So, just as we had Dole over Allen Keyes, Bush over Forbes, Mc Shamnesty and now Romney who is the best thing since Peanut Butter to a Socialist Bent GOP Establishment. Little will be fixed and us pions will have to take another one for the Socialist Lite GOP Team.

Ed,
You are so right about the multitude of boomers that will retire and expect social security, Medicare, and other entitlements that they paid into. For this to happen, a middle or slightly right president is going to be a necessity in the next election. But the mystery is, how many voters are still mesmerized by Barack Obama? Obama, as well as former democratic candidates have enjoyed the near total support of the mainstream media for the past twenty years. Unfortunately, in the last election, the republican candidate (McCain) seemed to have lost the election at the mid point. He defended Obama on many occasions. Politics is a dirty business, and if the republican candidate isn’t willing to take a hard stand on hard facts, we will have “four more years”. This upcoming election could be the most important one in history. We lived like socialists for the past four years, alienated some of our most loyal allies, ran up enormous debt increases, received a forced unconstitutional health care system, increased benefits to folks that think they are a way of life, and the government has expected the “working” middle class to make sacrifices and share their wealth. Sounds almost like a government designed by Karl Marx.
