Is it any wonder why many high-profile Democrats, including President Obama, have supported and defended the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement and continue to do so? It holds out the promise of a return to the heady and influential days of the anti-Vietnam War movement where Democrats, now in their 50s and 60s, cut their teeth. They see it as a tool to rally frustrated Americans to support them in the coming elections. Unfortunately, the OWS protesters are unguided missiles that haven’t lived up to Democrat’s expectations and expose the weakness of their fundamentally-transform-America argument. (More)

The OWS may not save the dems, but the Republicans have to come up with a candidate that they all can support and pick up support from dems that have had it with President Obama. Otherwise he will probably be elected.

Discussion: DEMOCRAT’S SUPPORT FOR OWS AND NOSTALGIA FOR THE ANTI-VIETNAM WAR MOVEMENT
Ed;
I fail to see the relationship you suggest between today’s OWA mostly youth movement and the youth movement of the Viet Nam era. The Viet Nam era demonstrators were not about economics and/or the economy as are the OWA movement of today. Viet Nam demonstrators were about the war and the possibility of being drafted. The youth of today have little concern for being drafted and thrust into armed conflict, (there is no draft today). The few 50s and 60s involved in today’s demonstrations are concerned with jobs, employment and the economy. Nostalgia, I doubt it.

Rhodell,
I didn’t say they were like them. I said that Democrats wish there were like them.

The GOP is just jealous that it can’t mobilize the way an organic OWS has. This is just the beginning of Obama’s path to a second term. The best part is, he didn’t have to do anything to get it started.

I’m glad democrats support OWS. Please give them a bigger microphone, bigger stage, more media coverage and let them shout OWS message. Lets show the trash OTS left behind, crime stats, drugs, $ cost to cities and crazy idiots who attend. Then all our law abiding, responsible people who go to work everyday can see what a liberal democrat is really all about – taking more of your money you earned and giving it to people who didn’t work for it.
