That’s a good way of putting it…..
“But if someone is going to come up with a scenario for aliens to invade Earth, there are far more probable ones than stopping global warming. The one I prefer is that all those radio and TV transmissions from earth are driving them crazy and they just want to turn them off.”
There was a radio sci-fi show decades ago, can’t remember its name, in which the aliens sensed and then homed in on earth’s transmissions, and ate up the electrons. The aliens followed the transmissions right to Earth. The result was that all electrical output globally was eaten by the aliens as soon as it was produced. So, the result was back to steam engines for power. The Grid was killed. And also, no automobiles as we know them today.

What this tells me is that the earthlings that are concerned about this never visited a museum and toally under estimate the intelligence of any being that can travel vast distrances through space on ships far more technologically advanced than our primitive chemical burning rockets. At one time Al Gore and I corresponded but no longer. He totally disappoints me. Any museum of natural histroy graphically shows that the earth has gone through many enviromantal changes long before man was even thought of. I will not go into this here, but visit andy reputable museum, read well authored books on the subject and ignore the junk science idiots. The earth is warming, no doubt. Are human being doing it, probably not to the extent that the political pundants want us to belive. The earth has cooled also in the past and a mini-ice age was predicted to hit now in 1976.
Extraterrestrial beings have their own worries. The earth is a minute speck of space dust in the vastness of the cosmos. If this planet were to cease to exist, its impact on the universe would be un-noticeable. There are black holes bigger than the earth.
The people that expound these type of worries had better get back to something they can better comprehend such as American Idol or Kim Kardasian’s wedding. Leave science to those that really understand it.

What a great name for a band “Hello Cleveland! We are the Global Warming Crusader Extraterrestrials!”…better than Quantum Corn Nuts which is what I’d use for the folks in the study IF, big if, they were doing this study for anything other than theoretical type stuff.
Since the Earth is in a minor backwater arm of the Milky Way galaxy, basically, like driving through the American Southwest and sneezing to miss the exit sign for Death Valley, and you’d have to be an alien just like us worried about climate change with the specific greenhouse gases of this planet (and gee, many of our climate folks don’t seem to really know the effect humans have and if the current climate changes aren’t really just another planetary cycle that happens to come at a bad time for us who are used to skiing at a certain time and the fact that polar bear cubs are cute [where is that sentiment for whales that get harpooned for 'scientific reasons?']) not sure why such a study was even done…
…oh wait, because a special interest got a member of Congress to pay for it which seems cooler than actually doing things like balancing the budget, getting out the 2012 budget before yet another Congressional recess (I want their jobs, get paid an annual salary for only 6 months work in DC). Probably seemed cooler to get this study funded.
Off to get my tin foil hat and sit in my pool so I don’t get grabbed.

Yeah, maybe they’ll tell us to build smoke stacks with alternating addition and subtraction of ozone. Addition by electrical means and subtraction by wavelengths of light, wash it all nicely with some misting to heavy sprinkling water before it leaves the smoke-stack and viola, less hydrocarbons… Whoopee!!!!!!!!!!
