GLENN BECK: Preacher, Professor, Pundit, Patriot, Performer

What are we to make of Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally at the Lincoln Memorial on August 28? Was it a religious revival meeting? Was it a Tea Party rally? Was it a patriotic demonstration? Or was it simply a massive outdoor Glenn-Beck-Program field trip? The event that drew upwards of 300,000 people to the National Mall and sent shock waves through Washington, DC, and across the country was all the above and more. (More)

Estimates on the size of the crowd vary widely, of course. CNN hired a company to estimate its size and they said it was between 78,000 and 96,000. Take a look at the photograph above and tell me if you think that is a reasonable estimate. Certainly an million or 650,000 is excessive. My estimate is closer to 300,000.

It was quite refreshing that this rally had a non political theme. Even though the message was about restoring honor, I believe that the massive turnout in the summer heat spoke political volumes without uttering a word. Restoring Honor in our country has become a sorely needed item of interest in the past year and a half. What a great theme. The benefits are going to a wonderful cause, The Special Operations Warrior Foundation. The exact number of attendees is not all that important, anyone can see that it was massive in size. CNN and the rest of the liberal news media no doubt highly overestimated the turnout at the Million Man March and Al Sharpton’s high school crowd. The bottom line is, that the message of discontent was sent.

Thanks Bob. I was largely unaware of SOWF before Beck mentioned it on his program. Charities like SOWF and Fisher House do a great deal to help military families. Wish they had been around 35 years ago.

Right on ED! Glad you covered this event/topic. I am deployed and training in the desert at Ft Bliss and havent received much news of recent events. One of my Sailors mentioned this event to me just this morning. This was a refreshing editorial. Traditional American values- Americans need to read and understand the Constitution.

  4. Former USAFR Intelligence Officer here salutes you, sir, for a well-written article on the great 2010 Glen Beck rally. Just like Glenn Beck, I am also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The name “Mormon” is a nickname based on The Book of Mormon: Another Witness of Jesus Christ, the story of the ancient peoples in the Western Hemisphere. These were the “other sheep I have which are not of this fold…” spoken of by the Savior.

Deep cuts in the U.S. defense budget will have a negative impact on U.S. national security. Equally, if not more worrisome, are the effects of the strain we are putting on our warriors by endlessly placing them in harm's way with no clear victory they can tell themselves was worth their sacrifice.

  • THIRTY SECONDS OVER TOKYO April 15, 2012
Brief events often have the most profound and lasting impact. April 18 is the 70th anniversary of the Doolittle bombing raid on Tokyo, America's first military strike against the Imperial Japanese homeland, four months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. That brief event had a profound and lasting effect on U.S. morale and the war effort following the sho […]

The Treyvon Martin case has become a media sensation. It has all the necessary elements--tragedy, race, anticipated court-room drama, politics, exploitation, and a gun. We won't know how it will turn out until the authorities in Florida complete their investigation; however it turns out, it's become a rallying cry against stand-your-ground laws--a […]
